The Meta Quest 2 is a great headset for the money, but the comfort isn’t great. Meta has an official headstrap accessory that can help, but it’s $50 and breaks all the time. This article is a hands on review of a better alternative from a company called ZyberVR.
The Need for a Better Headstrap
Ever wished you could dive deeper into the virtual world with your Meta Quest 2 but find it falling short on comfort and battery life? The standard 3-hour playtime falls short for many, and nothing’s worse than a battery dying during a game. You can always play for longer by plugging your headset into a PC, but part of the appeal of the Quest 2 is its standalone capabilities, so that defeats the purpose in many cases. Its lack of comfort doesn’t help either; the headset can get quite heavy on the face after a short period of time. It has a habit of sliding down your face and pulling on your skin, and if you tighten it to try to counter this, it just ends up giving you a headache. These two things combined can really limit playtime and can be annoying to deal with.
Luckily, there is a solution for these issues. The ZyberVR Elite Head Strap is a replacement strap for your Quest 2. It provides 4 to 6 hours of extra playtime with 6000mAh a battery pack in the back, along with extra comfort from a very nicely padded piece that goes on top of your head.
Also, as an added bonus, there are rotating hinges near your ears – wearing and removing your headset just became a breeze.
Let’s try this strap out and see how it measures up!
Unboxing the Strap
Packaging is always the first impression we get of a product, and the ZyberVR Elite Head Strap does not disappoint there. It is nice and simple; the outer cardboard sleeve slides right off of the box, and the strap is packaged neatly inside a protective sleeve. Upon taking it out, it feels very well-built with no compromises in quality.
The instructions are clear and concise – I was able to set this thing up in minutes. All you have to do is put the rear head brace and the upper padded piece onto the main white strap, and then snap it onto the headset.
Strapping In
Once the strap is on your Quest 2, it does add some weight. However, this works out well because all of the additional weight is in the back of the headset. This will provide some counter-balance, taking some pressure off of your face. For people like me who struggle with front-heaviness, this is a game-changer.
Speaking of comfort, the upper soft padded piece that goes on the top of your head feels so nice. Both the elite and the stock strap have a single piece of fabric on the upper head portion of the strap that can start to dig into your head after a long session; this strap doesn’t do that at all, it sits nicely atop your head.
Game Time
Playing in VR with this head strap is wonderful. I play-tested it with some fairly intense games; Beat Saber and Synth Riders. Both of these involve a lot of movement so when a head strap isn’t comfortable, you REALLY feel it. I struggle with my quest elite strap after a couple of hours, but had no such issues with this strap.
The combination of the counter weight and the soft upper piece made a huge difference for comfort, and I was able to play for much longer than usual! Plus, I didn’t have to worry about my battery dying. The comfort was the best part for me, though!
Meta Quest 2 Elite Strap vs The ZyberVR Head Strap
Compared to the official elite strap, the ZyberVR strap is much more comfortable. The elite strap is a solid upgrade from the stock strap that comes with your Quest 2, but it doesn’t have the cushioning and added counterweight that the ZyberVR strap has. It also feels much more well-built than the official elite strap does – the side arms are much thicker. This does mean it is heavier than the official elite strap, but the fact that most of the weight is in the back makes it not very noticeable when you are actually wearing it.
Overall, the single and only issue I have with this strap is that it makes my Quest 2 not fit in the official Meta case. Otherwise, it performed great and is a huge improvement. Not only does it feel like a pillow is embracing my head, but I can play for way longer! For being cheaper than the official elite strap at 45.99, it is well worth the money spent, and in my opinion is a MUCH better and more comfortable choice by far. It is not much to spend for a massive increase in comfort and battery life. I highly suggest this strap for anybody looking for an improved VR experience.
